Kennedy
Born
John Fitzgerald “Jack” Kennedy on May 29, 1917 to Joseph p. Kennedy sr. and
Rose Kennedy in Brookline, Massachusetts. John was born to a wealth politically
influenced family. His father and grandfather were politicians and businessmen
and his mother was a philanthropist/socializes. He was of Irish ancestry. He
had eight other sibling making them nine all together.
Jack
attended the Edward Dewtion School, Dexter school through 4 grades. In
September 1927, the family moved from Boston to Riverdale, New York.
He
attended Harvard University, where he majored in government and international
relations. After graduating from the Harvard with award and honors in 1940, he
furthered his education in Stranford University for graduate studies. During
the War (Second World War) he enlisted for the US Army, but was rejected
because of his back injury and after recovering he again applied for the US
navy and was accepted. Showing great display of courage, leadership, endurance
and heroism he succeeded in saving some of his crew men.
After
the war, he returned back to civilian life, however, coming from a family
devoted to public service, Kennedy desired a career and life in politics.
In 1946,
he was elected for the US House of Representatives from Massachusetts eleventh
congressional district, he won again in 1948 and 1950.
In 1949,
he became a member of the joint committee on labor management relation. In
1952, Kennedy was elected a senator in Massachusetts and reelected again in
1958. In 1956, he lost the vice president nomination at the democratic
convention in Chicago in 1956, he decided to run for president.
In 1960,
he announced his intention and was successfully nominated for president.
Religious Prejudice nearly caused him his election but he responded to the
issue in his “Huston Speech” on September 11, 1960.
On
November 9, 1960 John F. Kennedy became the president of United State of
America and the youngest president and first Roman Catholic in American History
to win the presidency. Kennedy won 303 votes over Nixon 219 in the electoral
college.
In his
inaugural address, where he made his famous quote, “ask not what your country
can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”.
Not too
long in office, he was faced with many crises from Bay of Pigs, Cuban missile
crisis, Vietnam, Quest for space program and he successfully overcomes them
all.
President
Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas at about 12:30pm Central Standard
Time on November 22, 1963 while on a trip to Texas. Up till this moment nobody
has been confirmed the killer but many conspiracy theories have been heard
about his death.
John F.
Kennedy was a great man, an orator, a civil right activist, a statesman, a
senator and an icon. His Legacies are still felt throughout the world
particularly the United States.
HE IS
ONE OF THE BEST PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES.
