OBJECTIVES OF ADULT EDUCATION

Objectives of adult education

There are five objectives of adult education. For a programme to be an adult education programme, these objectives as stated below are suppose to be their main aims, goals and objectives to achieve.

1)Provides functional literacy and continuing education for adults and youths who have not had the advantage of formal education or who did not complete their primary education e.g migrants families, nomads, the disabled and other categories of groups especially the disadvantaged gender

2)To provide functional and remedial education for those young people who prematurely dropped out of formal education

3)To provide further education for different categories of completers of formal education system in other to improve their basic knowledge and skills

4)To provide in-service and on-the-job vocational and professional training for different categories of workers and professionals in other to improve their skills

5)To give the adult citizens of the country as aesthetic, cultural and civic education for public enlightenment.

According to Monye(1981)opines that all these objectives have one end in view-to equip the adult with everything he needs for life in other to be relevant to the society by helping to solve some of it's problems.
